Trestle Style Writing Table with Straight Legs
Spain
18th Century
Walnut and wrought iron
Cm 82 high x 165 wide x 82 deep
This 18th century Spanish trestle style writing table has a tabletop of one single wide plank, and the leg sections, or trestles, are joined with sliding dovetail joints and fastened in place with wrought iron stretchers. Both trestles are hinged at the top, and can be folded flat for ease of storage or transport with the stretchers removed. The table is beautifully simple and austere, the wood a rich brown with extensive grain and various marks of use giving it a unique character. Definitely a table with history - inspiring, comforting and functional.
